Welcome

Angiodysplasia Switzerland is an organisation founded by people affected by vascular malformations, to support other affected individuals and their families. Our focus is on the interests and rights of people living with a rare vascular malformation. We promote networking among those affected, raise public awareness, and actively support the advancement of research as well as improved treatment options. Together, we work to sustainably improve the quality of life of those affected.

What are angiodysplasias?

Angiodysplasias are rare congenital malformations of the blood and lymphatic vessels. They lead to abnormal vascular structures that can cause circulatory disorders. The extremities are often affected, but organs can also be involved. The causes lie in developmental defects of the vessels, which lead to impaired function. The exact triggers have not yet been fully researched.

Typical symptoms include pain, swelling, skin discoloration and, in some cases, significant blood loss. In the long term, impaired function of joints, venous valves, or an increased tendency to thrombosis may occur. Visible features include port-wine stains (naevus flammeus), early-onset varicose veins, disproportionate growth (overgrowth or undergrowth), and lymphatic congestion.

Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent severe courses or late complications. However, due to the rarity of the condition, it is often challenging to find specialised physicians, especially since there are different terms and opinions about angiodysplasias in medicine.

Our goal

Our goal is to give those affected a voice, raise awareness and promote exchange between people affected, their families and medical professionals.

As founding members, we are affected ourselves and want to work together for greater awareness, research and better care. We would be very happy to welcome anyone interested in supporting us.
